Foloun = Sid Phillips
Both Sid and Foloun are known for some pretty horrible crimes. Foloun made a disparaging comment about the commoners, telling them to eat grass if they were hungry, which, unfortunately, wasn't seen as humorous to the starving people. Sid was a villian in Toy Story that tormented the toys and treated them with no respect, like Foloun did with the peasants. Foloun meets a gruesome death in chapter 23 of Book 2, when the revolutionaries hang him, and stuff his face with grass.“Foulon who told my old father he might eat grass, when I had no bread to give him. Foulon who told my baby it might suck grass, when these breasts were dry with want. O mother of God, this Foulon. O Heaven, our suffering.” (Chapter 22, Page 206-207)
This quote plays a significant role in showing things from the perspective of a revolutionists. The revolution started because of mistreatment of citizens, and this is an example of some of that mistreatment. Innocent and hungry citizens were told to eat grass when they found nothing else to eat. This mistreatment caused the revolutionists to rebel. In the act of rebelling, most of the revolutionist lose their sight of morals. They begin to think in the mindset of “an eye for an eye” and sometimes take their revenge too far. “Give us the blood of Foulon”, is all that is on the mind of the revolutionists in this chapter (207). This truly shows what rebellion and suffering can do to people.
